My favourite sets and mixes from the past 7 days.
“That’s how we’re starting this ting!” Tintz says as he claims the first wheel of the set, two minutes in. It really does set the tone for the madness that ensues. Everyone on this set is ready to fire from on the onset, including Kirby T, who’s selection throughout this set is impeccable. He’s joined by Rolla, TCDAGENIUS, Reece West, JoSoSick, Tintz and Dutchie Limao. Also happy to see Dutchie back on a set, it’s been a while and he’s certainly one of best spitters in Grime, so stick around please, mate. As if there wasn’t enough happening in this set, Charisma joins Kirby for impromptu B2B around half way through, starting off by giving TC a wicked Cammy Riddim through-ball. All in all an absolute madness, enjoy.
The GOAT in the mix for Pyro Radio. Grandmixxer returns to radio with his own beautiful, melodic and simultaneously weighty sound. Needless to say the blends and chops in this are on a different level to any DJ anywhere, but what is so impressive is that after about 15 years or so in the game, he’s still coming with new tricks on the decks and mixer, he’s still the one pushing for excellence.
Oblig closed out his Rinse FM show last week with a guest mix from Peroli, followed by a set with bars from Jammz and Dutchguts. I featured Peroli’s IAMGRIME guestmix last week, which was very hard, and this one is no different. It’s also a perfect warmup to the set. I’ve never heard Dutchguts before, but I really enjoy listening to him. He’s got a very honest, laid-back style, which is a nice contrast to the hard-hitting instrumentals. This is a really well curated radio show, from guests to music played. Big up Oblig.
Since I first listened to Nancy June’s Balamii show a few months ago, I’ve made sure to catch every show since. She’s got a crazy selection of Dubstep and Garage that would (and does) mash up any rave. I listened to this mix start to finish and couldn’t concentrate on doing anything else, cos it had me locked the fuck in. Amazing DJing.
Booking Izco and Reek0 for your dance is a bit of cheatcode at this point. Guaranteed Vibes. It feels like Izco is on home turf playing a Rinse Summer Terrace Party. He certainly is more than comfortable as he plays through the smoothest Garage hits, to Grime to finishing with some Jungle. All the while Reek0 is hosting and barring his way through the set, really doing up Master of Ceremony. If this set marked the end of summer, what a way to do it.
